Worship FAQs
What should I expect?
You will be received with the warmest hospitality upon your visit to Big Run Christ Church (Disciples of Christ). We welcome visitors of all shapes and sizes and are happy that you have chosen us to worship with on Sunday morning! We also will not make you feel uncomfortable by making you stand and introduce yourself, wear a nametag, or put you on the spot. We want your experience with us to be as comfortable and enjoyable as possible so that you may feel free to worship God. If you would like more information about our church, our history, our mission, or have any questions about anything feel free to ask either of our Pastors (you will find them bustling around in the mornings, running in and out of the church office making last minute worship adjustments!) or any one of our deacons or elders (these will be the people sitting in the very front pews!) or any one of our welcoming and friendly church members. Any one of us would be happy to answer any and all of your questions or even offer you some good company to sit with! Visitors may also sign the friendship pads located at the end of each pew to be contacted for more information.
Where are you located?
Just a little ways past the town of Cameron. Keep heading up the road for a few more miles and we sit directly across from Reid Ridge. We are a little white church with a cemetery on the side.
Is there parking?
We have a large lot for all to park in and try to keep it has clean and snow free for your safety during inclement weather.
What time does your service start?
Our morning worship service begins at 10:30 AM every Sunday morning.
Are children welcome? And what, if anything, is offered for them?
Absolutely! You will find children are more than welcome to participate in our morning worship. Every morning, our service is started by two (or sometimes more!) children lighting our candles during the prelude. We also have a children's sermon for them where they will be offered a lesson having to do with today's scripture and also a treat for the road! Following the children's sermon, children are welcome to stay and sit with their parents for the remainder of worship or proceed downstairs with a member of our children's ministry team to do a craft and play in our nursery. And we understand that children get wiggly or make noise during worship. Don't fear! We view these sounds as signs that our church is alive and striving! You will never be asked to leave or be viewed as a "distraction". We see these things as blessings and we welcome children of all ages to worship with us!
What about the Lord's Supper? Tell me how you do that and can I participate?
We as part of the Disciples of Christ denomination take part in the holy sacrament of communion every week. We welcome all those that have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior to participate in this holy supper with us. All Christians are welcomed to our table! Upon receiving the elements, we ask that you hold them in your hand, giving thanks to God for the ultimate sacrifice in Jesus Christ, and the elders will instruct everyone of when to take them, so that we might partake of this holy communion as One Body of Christ.
How do I become a member of your faith community?
It is always a celebratory day when someone decides to call our church "home"! Becoming a member is an important and big decision in your commitment to follow Christ. An elder or either of our Pastors would love to start having the conversation with you of how you start to make this important decision. Upon making your decision, each week we have an invitation. This is the part in the service where you will be able to make your Good Confession of Faith (the Pastor will ask you if you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God and you proclaim him Lord and Savior to which you will respond with a simple "I do.") You will then be received with love and extended the right hand of Christian Fellowship and welcomed warmly into our community of Faith. If you have not been baptized yet, you and one of our Pastors can set that up for whatever date and location you feel called to. We do not have a baptism font in our church, but are welcome to use our sister church's (First Christian Church of Cameron) baptism whenever we need to. OR like so many others in our church, you may be baptized in a creek or river. The time and place is for you and the Pastor to discuss! If you have already been baptized whether as a baby or in another denomination, you may be wondering if you have to do it again. The answer to that is no! We recognize all baptism as valid and all you need to do is come forward during the invitation to transfer your membership to our church. If you have any more questions about becoming a member or baptism, please never hesitate to ask our Pastors or any one of our elders and we'd be glad to answer them for you!
